ECZEMA

Eczema

Eczema is a common, long-term skin condition that causes the skin to become dry, itchy, inflamed and sometimes cracked or sore. It can affect people of all ages, from babies and children to adults, and may occur anywhere on the body.

Symptoms can vary over time, with periods when the skin is relatively settled and flare-ups when symptoms become more troublesome.

With appropriate treatment and ongoing management, eczema symptoms and flare-ups can often be effectively managed.

What is eczema?

Eczema is an inflammatory skin condition. Symptoms vary from person to person and may include:

  • Dry or sensitive skin

  • Itching

  • Inflamed or irritated skin

  • Cracked or sore skin

  • Periods of flare-up followed by periods when the skin is more settled

There are different types of eczema, and symptoms can occur anywhere on the body. Identifying possible triggers and establishing an appropriate skincare and treatment routine can be an important part of managing the condition.

Our approach to eczema at Greystones Dermatology

Treatment depends on the type and severity of eczema and possible triggers. Following an assessment, management may include:

  • Regular use of moisturisers to support the skin

  • Topical treatments to reduce inflammation

  • Advice on identifying and avoiding factors that aggravate the skin

  • Additional treatment options for more persistent or severe eczema

Our aim is to identify the most appropriate approach to managing your eczema, reducing flare-ups and improving the comfort and health of your skin.
