ROSACEA
Rosacea
Rosacea is a common, long-term skin condition that primarily affects the face, causing persistent redness, flushing and visible blood vessels. Some people may also develop small red bumps or pustules, while others experience sensitive, dry or irritated skin.
Symptoms can vary over time and may be triggered by factors such as sunlight, temperature changes, alcohol, spicy foods or stress.
Treatment is tailored to the type and severity of rosacea and may include skincare advice, sun protection, topical treatments and oral medication.
What is rosacea?
Rosacea can present in different ways, and understanding the type of rosacea can help determine the most appropriate treatment approach.
Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea
Characterised predominantly by facial flushing, persistent redness and visible small blood vessels.
Papulopustular Rosacea
Produces inflammatory red bumps and pustules, often accompanied by background facial redness. It can sometimes be mistaken for acne.
Phymatous Rosacea
Causes thickening and enlargement of the skin, most commonly affecting the nose. Early medical treatment may help control active rosacea, while established tissue thickening may require procedural treatment.
Ocular Rosacea
Affects the eyes and eyelids and can cause dryness, burning, irritation, redness, a gritty sensation or recurrent eyelid inflammation. Significant eye symptoms may require assessment by an ophthalmologist.
